The Eggli boulder is the only place of worship from the Bronze Age in the whole of Switzerland.
The Eggli boulder is located at the end of the small forest in Spiezmoos. The three quartzite-sandstones come from (like the Katzenstein link) from the Haslital. They formed a raised block, which 1200 years before Christ, during the Bronze Age, served as a place of worship. During many excavations in a depth of up to 20cm about 18’000 clay fragments with traces of fire, as well as individual items from bronze- and bone fragments have been found. It is assumed that the clay pots were thrown against a block in order not to be misused for further use, int the sense of the modern saying: Broken crockery brings you luck.
The Eggli boulder is the only place of worship from the Bronze-Age in Switzerland. The historic museum Bern has even dedicated a place for it in the permanent exhibition.
