The twelve 1000-year-old churches on Lake Thun

1000-year-old churches

Wander in the footsteps of past times and discover the twelve legendary churches on Lake Thun

Over 1’000 years ago twelve romantic churches were formed along the Way of St. James on Lake Thun. The historic buildings in Spiez, Leissigen, Aeschi, Frutigen, Thun, Sherzligen, Thierarchen, Amsoldingen, Einigen, Wimmis, Sigriswil and Hilterfingen will take you back to long-forgotten times. The churches face the sunrise and are aligned with each other on longitudinal and lateral axes. Who the responsible person was for building the 12 churches is no longer traceable. The Castle Church in Spiez also belongs to these contemporary witnesses, its’ roman architecture has been preserved at its’ purest.
